The left, right, up, down keys will move an object, and pressing shift will cause them to rotate. But how do I get them to rotate/ move at a finer resolution? I can't find anything about this in the manual. can anyone advise? Thanks :)

Hi - at the bottom of the general section of the prefs you can change the nudge factor

also .. pressing shift should I believe multiply your nudge factor by ten (or perhaps it's different on the PC ?)

>>pressing shift should I believe multiply your nudge factor by ten Yes, same for mac and pc. If the nudge value is zero, the arrow keys will pan and (shift) rotate the view. If non zero, it will move the selected geometry where if the shift key is hit will move by nudge * 10. Tim

Sorry to nag Tim but that full explanation should really be documented in the U Manual

Do you know, I've just tried it, and there is no difference!!! A bug perhaps? I'll try again.

It doesn't work!!! changing the factor does nothing. If I choose 0, 10 or 100, there is no difference. Without pressing shift, the model will pan, pressing shift it will rotate. But it isn't smooth. The rotation looks like it's in steps of 5 which isn't bad I suppose- just not steps of 1 or smaller. A combination press of say ctrl and shift (Mac) would be nice :D. Then again, perhaps I need to do this another way? Tom

Hi Tom If the nudge factor is non zero, the nudge keys will nudge selected geometry the nudge distance. Holding the shift key will move the geometry 10*nudge distance. If the nudge factor is zero, the nudge keys will: --pan the view left, right, up, down a percent of the screen --Shift Arrow will rotate the view in 5 degree steps >>But it isn't smooth. The nudge keys are not a dynamic view operation. It moves the view each time you hit the arrow key. Hope that better clarifies. Tim

The nudge will only move geometry if the selection tool is selected. If any other tool is selected pressing the arrow keys moves the view.

Yes but that now makes sense :) If selecting some dimensions to move, you wouldn't want to select them with the extrude tool? :)
- edit- although as said before, it would be nice if there was an ability to change tool using a right mouse button click/ contextual menu eh Tim? ;)
