Can anyone suggest the best route/method to import OpenSCAD designs into ViaCAD 2D/3D and maintain objects editable?

Hello quazzer.

I didn't try one of my suggestions myself (yet) but they should work.

1) export from OpenSCAD via STL and import into ViaCAD/Shark
> results in a "dumb" solid with triangle surfaces

2) import OpenSCAD Script in FreeCAD and export via Step-Format
to ViaCAD/Shark.
This should give you (non-editable) NURBS-Surfaces.

3) look at the OpenSCAD-Script an try to rebuild the Solid(s) in ViaCAD/Shark
from scratch.
If the script looks to complex you can try to perform Step 1)
or
Install Netfabb Basic.
This Software is free and lets you view, repair and measure STL's.
This way you can export from OpenSCAD to STL, import in Netfabb Basic
and measure all necessary dimensions.
This makes it easier to rebuild the solid(s) from scratch in Viacad/Shark.

Normally every export/import-Operation makes a Solid "dumb".
Of course you can apply additional operations to it but you have no access
to it's previous history.
Making imported solids completly editable is something the developers
of ViaCAD/Shark are working on for the upcoming V9-Version (see here for
Demo).

But since that seems to take its time you have to cope with one of my
suggestions at the moment (i presume).

Hmmm, that file presents itself as an mp4, and my browser wants to play it as a music file or just download it. Looks like i have to move it off my tablet and onto my computer to try to view it.

Export as STEP and rebuild in Shark/ViaCad if you want to be able to edit all parameters. I have yet to find a CAD app that will faithfully transfer features from another APP elegantly. There always seems to be an issue/headache involved. Good Luck.

Sorry Tem, but OpenSCAD can only export STL (meant for 3D-Printing).
STL is fine for that purpose but for CAD it is a no good data format.
[I guess quazzer wants to download models from Thingiverse and work with
them in VC/Shark.
On Thingiverse you can download the OpenSCAD-Code (if available) or the
STL-File(s)].

BRL-RFE, well that won't work then, will it.;-)
I don't know OPENSCAD's file export capabilities. STEP export is so common amongst many common apps, I just assumed it had that feature. Thank you for the insight.

Thanks guys. Yes @BPL-RFE was right I was thinking of being able to edit .scad files from Thingiverse, but guess it's going to be easier to re-draw them in ViaCAD :-(
