Hello,
I am a cabinet maker by day and a new Viacad user by night :D . Having just purchased the software a short time ago I have already seen it's potential as a design tool. What I would like to know is if there is any way to get info out for a cutlist? Nothing complicated to start with, just basic dimensions for a box. If Possible, how would I go about this ? Attributes, BOM, Object info ? If I draw a box with 2 sides, a top, bottom and a back is there some way to export this to a CSV or text file that tells me the material thickness, length and width ? Everything I have tried has not worked. I see that I can create custom attributes but then I would need to manually enter dimensions. As I type this, axis points and layers come to mind ? If I draw a panel 3/4" thick 20" deep and 30" high XYZ is there some way to export these dimensions with a part name that is automatically generated by viaCad? Any help is much appreciated and I hope to be able to contribute to the forum myself once I get better acquainted with the software.

Michael

Hi Michael,

You might want to explore using the "Perimeter" attribute assigned to each of the lines. After you assign them, create a BOM table. Then use the export box to create a tab delimited text file for excel.

Hi Tim,

The "Perimeter" attribute is for 2D and it breaks down the individual lines. This is not usefull for me. I would like to draw in 3D and get the info out. This has been a problem for me in every drawing/cad program I have tried. I am no software programmer but to me it seems it should be easy to do. The information I want is stored by the program for every 3D part I create under the "Object Info-Data Tab" as Length, Width and height. Exactly what I want. Is there any way to export this "Data" for a 3D object ?

Thanks,
Michael

>> "Perimeter" attribute is for 2D

It is actually a 3D length, does that help? Depending on the orientation of the line, it may measure length, width or height.
