Did this project a few years back.

Its good to do the ID and Mechanical design as it means total control over what gets produced, no fights with a lazy engineer who doesn't get it, or cant be bothered, or just has to get their thumb print all over your product.

The label on the upper unit is a decal, so what you see is straight out of CU.

Nick,

great example for combining these both areas.

Would it be allowed to put it in our CU/SFX gallery, w/ your © of course:

Yes, this is excellent!- it impressed the guys at my new job-

-they were impressed with VC too- until I said that it wasn't parametric, then I showed them Shark. Unfortunately Pro/Desktop won the toss- because it is free, and doesn't run on a Mac. :(

There is a long way to go :(

That is so Nick B, that bit of design. You should have seen his degree show guys! You could not have seen two more different style of product as ours were!

Nice one.

I very rarely do renderings. When I do, its usually after the fact as something for the nonexistent web site that I will have one day. Instead of presenting highly worked over renderings to clients I go in with a laptop, and connect to a projector if they have one, or just use my screen if they don't, then twirl the actual model around on screen turning on and off options that I have on different layers.

thought it's for educational use only... and no longer available for download or activation.

solid modeling only, i.e. more MCAD than CCAD resp. CAID.

Yes I do that as well sometimes. Works a treat. However I need the high end renderings because so many of my products are consumer retail based that clients need to present to buyers so the more realistic or even hyper-real they are the better.

And I am one of those rare folk who actually think that rendering is overrated. Rendering, in my opinion is for people who can't visualise in 3D- so fellow designers, consider yourselves lucky! :D

Of course there is nothing like a decently made demo model- in fact I've got one here right in front of me that cost 10,000 to make

Perhaps these render thingies do have their uses? lol!
