Hi Tim I've been trying to get a certain result with the helix tool and have discovered by playing in AI that I need a helix with a "decay" Is there any chance that this is something you could add to our tools Thanks Jol

Hi Jol, Just out of curiousity, what result is expected. Larry

Jol.
I'm just guessing what you might be after, but I came up with the result in the second and third pictures by using the Twist tool. Is that something like you want?

Hi Larry I can think of several uses for acceleration in a spiral - in this case it's pretty low tech .. it's for a hanging kid's mobile - spirals that turn in the breeze The spirals are simply more interesting if they are not simple offset coils - but widen or narrow as they fall

Hi Jol,
I have one made of wood pieces, low tech, but it works.

You could try and use the File: Import Spline which has the ability to construct splines from equations. Example attached with a quadratic and cubic coil expansion.

Hi Tim,
Is there a helix.txt file that could be used to produce the clock fusee part discussed in
http://forum.punchcad.com/showthread.php?t=2462 Thanks, Larry

40
vec(cos(u),-5 +sin(u),(u/20))
where
Min U value = 0;
Max U value = 40
x = cos(u)
y = -5 + sin(u)
z = u/20

>> Hi Tim, The import spline file looks for an extension of .spl. I know that you are very busy, but if you do have time, post an example on how to use helix.txt. Thanks, Larry
