Iges from CU - when imported into my CAM package or SolidWorks for that matter show multiple errors With SolidWorks, I can use SAT which gives a satisfactory result However with my CAM software, I am stuffed I have to go through SolidWorks using SAT and then export using iges Pain Anyone else seeing errors with iges exports ? Is there anything we can do better here ?

>>Is there anything we can do better here ? Does the iges read back into CU aok? If not, then we need to send the original file to Spatial to investigate. Does your CAM package support STEP? IGES does not support parts or solids very well (one of the reasons why STEP has replaced IGES as a standard)

No, it has problems when imported back in .. though they dont necessarily look like the same problems I see in SolidWorks or SprutCAM Have sent you one component as an example Please export as generic iges and reimport

Hello Jol Have you tried exploding all solids to surfaces before export as IGES? It could be there are some questionable interfaces between surfaces which are causing stitch/heal to fail in CU, Shark & CAM system. All the best Nick

As I understand it Nick .. iges does not send solids anyway .. but trimmed surfaces .. which are reconstituted in the target application I seem to be able to send iges files faultlessly from SW to Cam without issue. Don't we emply industry standard translators ? That's what I understood ! Looks like they need reviewing to me I have sent some sample files to Tim. Hopefully (when he empties his mailbox) he'll take a look and get back to me !

Not necessarily, although this happens in many CAD apps (re-stitching surfaces to solids). IGES *is* able to carry solids (MSBO, type #186), but not all applications understand/support this entity.

Yes and the garden of my office sits directly alongside a little creek called "Paar", which translates to "couple". Much love here ;-)

My trimmed iges files all seem to have raggy edges when I import them into SW / CAM Why is this ? Nick .. I tried exploding to surfaces .. same problems Tried all manor of export options .. including out to CAM iges via SolidWorks .. and it looks fine in SW .. but then looks raggy again at the target destination What are we doing with the output settings on long slow surfaces that they appear raggy in other apps My main problem in CAM is that the extents of an object are blown out when the raggy edges are included .. so it's really hard to set up the top of the cut !
