Mr Nice guy has left the room ...

... which just leaves me, and the elephant

Perspective - when are you going to FIX it ?

I can't even be bothered explaining what my problems with perspective are again - I figure I have wasted far more time doing that than you would fixing it.

Perspective is CRAP - when will it be addressed ?

Answer required !

Honestly, I'm working on a model here and suddenly when I turn on Perspective, my object leaps back in space 100 metres - WHY ?

This problem is 10 years old !

Then I have a new situation where every time I mouse down, perspective turns off

Last night I was rendering an object - the geometry was in perspective, but the render was in iso .. also a V7 problem

But the serious stuff is the problem with simply setting perspective - you've been fiddling about with this for years. Please Tim, please go and bury this piece of code in the garden and take a fresh look at it

Other apps seem to have no problem here - in fact - some don't even let you see things without perspective unless you ask for an elevation !

I dont want to set perpective - just like I dont want to set gravity - it is what it is ... why is it not just there

There's a fundamental problem here with display and it's time it was addressed

(takes another blood pressure pill)

Oh, be nice. You can charge for all that fiddle-fecking around.:-)
Seriously, when perspective freaks out on me I usually go to some other App that does it correctly without mucking around. It does take export and import time and all that, but it is usually way less time and my render/animation app is quick (uses all 8 processors).
Yes, it bugs me too and I agree that it needs to be looked at (no pun intended).

I have asked politely for years Tem - so no apologies here !

This is a tool that doesn't work right - and never has

It's a constant bain to users - and there is no advantage to Tim nor the users in not calling this out

It's a shame as - for me, perspective is the last of the big issues to address

Here's a post from the old forum ... back in 2004 with a Perspective question to which I still have no answer

... and I'll still be bringing it up until 2024 - or until we grab the bull by the horn and get this sorted out

Is it only me who turns perspective ON and touches the Navigator - only to have perspective turn OFF ?

Happens every time here

I'm not the right person to ask. I tried to turn perspective on and off, and didn't notice any difference... UserPostedImage

Here's what I see...

Jol,
You are not the only person with this problem.

I have also been pointing this out for years and asking for a fix. Maybe not as many years as you, but the problem has existed for as long as I have used CU / Shark since V2

hello,

only.... change the focal to small. ex: 100--->20

and the difference is visible.

Tim? for the default settings, it is more effective and ergonomic to change the focal with one small value.

Thanks.

Just a quick look at perspective, looks OK to me. To appreciate perspective you need some significant depth relative to object height and width. See video.

Do you mean - To appreciate perspective ... you need significant mind altering drugs !

There must be significant differences in the way I use / expect to use perspective from others - is this possible ?

(And granted, my models are sometimes complex - perhaps that makes a difference)

Or perhaps there's something wrong with my graphics hardware ? Dunno !

Or perhaps because I have models with parts adapted over many years (from maybe Shark V4)

But honestly ... I find it to be crap !

I will make a video of what perspective is like on my computer later today

Its not just you Jol. What is needed is a simple slider to change focal length - and have focal length that actually bears some resemblance to real life! SketchUp can do it - nice and simple to set up. But the one I like best is the one in Keyshot (Luxion Keyshot). There you can interactively change the camera focal length in realtime - and - interactively change the perspective effect in realtime as well. Simple. It works.

I have four issues with perspective. In order they are:

1. The perspective button is broken. Sometime perspective is on, and the button is off, sometimes vice versa. Been like this since day one.

2. You can not work in perspective mode, as end points etc do not work reliably.

3. The display breaks up into a jagged frightening mess if lights are on.

4. Control of perspective is not real time, and should have an auto adjust so that you never end up with your model as a tiny dot on the screen, or the whole screen filled with a single feature (unless that is what you want - meaning it needs to be auto, but with a manual override).

Tim

If I touch the viewball - perspective turns OFF

Why ?

If I render, object is rendered WITHOUT perspective AND perspective is turned OFF

Why ?

See movie (I sent it to you)

[Antoine - how do I make these movies like yours ?]

I can upload neither a 7.7 Mb .zip file nor a 15.5 Mb .mov file

Both are rejected, despite being within spec according to the uploader page
