Hi Tom,
At first the tool can appear buggy, as it can be too easy to pick incorrect hight/alignment axis, which then attempts to twist/distort the bend which can then cause an error popup.
It is better to make some construction lines for the ref, as it saves the "Pulling hair out syndrome" :D

Sounds like the transporter pattern buffer or matter-stream converter has an error....hehe
