Ok,

I'm still learning the nuances of ViaCAD.
I want to do something that I know I have done in C4D,FormZ and Sketch-up.

I have a rectangular cube that I want change the z dimension of only at one end.
Basically I want to draw a line on the surface and then pull/move the edge of the rectangle and have the inserted line provide a break for the geometry.
I want that line to become part of the solid, so basically I create a new face.
Can I do this in ViaCAD?

I don't think you can. With ViaCAD, you can't do operations on individual faces or segments like you can with some other modelers.

You could trim the cube with a line.

I don't think you can do what you are asking, but if you draw a line on your work plane and then use the trim solid (with line) tool you can cut your solid at the angle of that line.

You can then grab the control points of the line and move your cut by dragging the control points around.

The trick is to make sure that you have snap to work plane on, or you will have no control over where your line goes when you start dragging its control points.

Norbert,
For that shape, I would use a solid chamfer, two lengths, and adjust parameters.

Or chamfer length + angle, or draft (if its the whole face).

I think the point behind this is that there's a new paradigm in easy modelling .. that we don't yet employ

ie: .. by right clicking on a face, you should be able to invoke the local face operations and push stuff in and out, angle a surface or match etc

How about it Tim ?

jol,

You hit the nail on the head.

Thanks for the suggestions, but compared to drawing a line and pulling/pushing (with snaps) the solutions sound like roundabout fixes.... (i'm not knocking anyone, but it seems like it could be easier)

I'll be trying the suggestions.

We support drafting, matching, moving, offseting, and removing face(s) through the local face tool palette. But not in a push/pull user interface.

Yes, that is what we need to do. I have an implementation using the deep select tool but never enabled it in a released product. An easier method for creating new faces would also be nice. Right now you have to project a curve with the imprint option to get a new surface to move, draft, etc.
