The DS for deep select was a typo and I edited it woops.
I have never used a Mac so I can't tell you what the equivalent commands might be.
When trimming & extending a batch of lines try clicking more than once on the same line if you don't get the result your'e looking for. It works for me.
Look at the attached file for one more tidbit & clue for using the trim/extend tool.

I tried this, but i missed the "Ctrl+shift" part, so i failed to get what i needed. I think i also missed the part about wrapping a window around the deep-selected line's point. I think a point didn't appear for me. I did manage to succeed using the offset face command. However, with offset face, while it does highlight the face or bounding edges, it's tough going if the face being offset is masked by a nearer face and when the model zoom is such that the highlighted edges are not so discernable. In such cases, it would be nice if the face highlight code could figure that the user can't discriminate between one of the 3 faces the ambiguity pop-up is prompting for. For the exercise, i just set the offset face distance farther out than i needed, then one by one trimmed the 7 items by the soiids they intersected.
