If this cannot be done already, I request there be a feature whereby the user can type into the numeric fields a number followed by "in" for inches or "mm".

Then the number will convert automatically to whatever the default unit of measurement is set to.

For example, if I'm working in metric, but I'm given a dimension of 24.3" x 11.38", to work with, it will save me the trouble of calculating what the conversion to metric is and instead be able to simply type the imperial units.

Sound reasonable?

hmm... i think this auto-conversion works on the SFX as i use it often (or did you mean something else?) When in the metric mode, just type 24.3" or 24.3in into the text box and it'll auto-convert it. (What i wish is for it to show both the metric and inch units when we dimension something.) bye.

well gee whillikers it sure works! i was typing in 24 in (with the space) and it didn't work. didn't think to try NO-space. Thanks!

aah ha! that extra space huh?!!
hey we can also mix them in the same box/phrase like 0.75"+15mm :)
also can do fractions like 1/16"+10mm or 1 1/8"+50mm (there's a space in 1 1/8 as this is equivalent to 1.125")

Doesn't it do that already? I think the manual says you can mix units and add or subtract in your expression typed into the field box.

I REALLY like being able to enter mixed units. In early 08 when I started using ViaCAD, i became spoiled. At work, when I wanted to edit an ACAAD drawing with mixed units, i found that AC 2007 refused. I almost went into a rage, but I was in the office. All that price of AC, and it lacks some of the things I had been taking for granted in VC 2D/3D and in VC Pro. But, there are a few things I wish VCP had....

ha ha that box is actually a semi-powerful calculator.
We can draw a line and then type sqrt(10) as the length... and it'll come up as 3.16xx inch (square root of 10).
sqr(5.5) works too (that'll be like 5.5*5.5).
log(10) works too.
Also try pi+pi (that will be 6.something inch line).
or 5*pi to get us to 15.7xxx inch.
(We can pretty much type anything within reason into the box and the robot will give us the correct answer:))

Damn I had no idea! Thanks a bunch Phil. But I should brush up on my math before I start asking it questions I don't understand. :)
