Reverse? Fillet in Solid (#2961)

I don't know what the correct term for this operation might be, but what is the proper way to take a solid for example a cube, and rather than fillet the edge so that the curve is convex, make it concave. Basically instead of "rounding" an edge, I want the edge to be concave. Any takers? Thanks!!

I instinctively put a minus sign in front of the Radius value for a Constant Blend, in the hope that it might do this but unfortunately it is ignored. It made me think that if you could flip the radius, then it might also be possible to use the feature to apply Beads or Weld type fillets to edges. The pics show what I mean, the first one being a normal blend and the second is what I imagine could be achieved by inserting a minus sign before the Radius value.

Ok Nick, that's great, but how did you do it, please? I tried the negative radius for the blend tool, and as Martin pointed out, it is ignored, so I am left wondering!:confused: Regards, Ian.

Nick..nice tip for negative blend!! (but many operations). It will be interesting to have this behavior with automatic negative blend value!!

Yes Nick, exactly like that. I want to know a quick way to add the fillets you have shown. What tool did you use for that in 927?
Blowlamp: I tried the negative radius too, and it ignored it too. It sounds like it should be as simple as that..

You might try putting a pipe equal to the radius on all the edges and subtracting. Then blend resulting hard edges in the corner. The ACIS radial blend is fixed to do tangent edges so the negative radius wont work. Tim

Its a complete cludge, but it works.
Three rectangles booleaned together with fillets on the edges. This is what I like about Shark, that with some thought you can create almost anything. I like that there are simple powerfull tools, rather than a million specialized ones.

thanks a bunch Tim, I'll try that. Good demo NickB. I think that's a pretty simplified way to get what I need done. For doing fillets for moldings on table or cornice of a case piece, that would work well which is what I'm doing. btw it's good to see a mac user on here. :)

Finally got to trying this. I never used the pipe tool before because there didn't seem to be a reason for it. I could get used to this method easily.
This goes back to what NickB said about not having a million specialized tools but having less each having more versatile function.
