When I try and match a surface to a cylinder the object extends to the farthest point (on the "other" side). This happens even if I split the cylinder and get rid of the "other side" (which is pretty freaky).

Is there a way to deal with this? There seems to be no way to match surfaces to the closest surface, is that right?

Thanks in advance,

Art

Here is a movie of the problem in another form. The surface I am trying to match to is spherical.

What seems to be happening is that the surface is extending to some non-existent other side of the sphere.

Hello Art

Just a thought but what happens if you rotate cylinder through 180?

All the best

Nick,

That is a good thought, certainly as an experiment. But, on the cylinder, the extension goes to both sides (so rotating would look the same). On the sphere on the other hand, it just seems to go the wrong direction, so the rotation should give me something on the right surface. On the other hand, if you look at my movie, there is a revering or somthing that happens at the sphere origin...it is all very messy.

Thanks for the response,

Art

Here is one example. This happens to be extending a spherical shape but I have had this problems extending to and from spheres and cylinders. To me, a pretty serious problem. Try to extend the surface highlighted in blue to the surface highlighted in green. What I get is a big hoop. I have this problem on all sorts of files. This is actually a more complex example.

Yes .. these hoops are a huge pain - I think they may be an acis problem - but who knows

I'm getting these hoops often when exporting to SolidWorks - presumably when a surface doesn't get trimmed back right

Be great to collect some 'cases' of this - think I got one or two in my modestly proportioned :| folder entitled 'CUFUs'

Was this bug repaired in Shark? Here is my latest movie (and file).

Isn't this a simple problem?

I can confirm that this happens quite frequently (though apparently in a random manner) and can be very annoying!

No Misunderstanding, I am using CU4 as well. I just wanted to know if it had been addressed. I just bought Shark and I was hoping that this was one of the issues solved.
