Hello

I have a question concerning NURBS. In my drawing i would like to cover the two
parts between the construction lines with a NURB, than extrude it and make a
projection of the NURB to the xy plane in it's original size. So at the end i would
like to have the coverage (NURB) of the 2 parts flat. Is that possible?
and if so how can i do it.

I hope with my poor knowledge of CAD you unterstand what i mean. Thank's

kind regards
Martin

a bit hard to follow what your asking. I assume you would want to use the edges and do a netsurface or cover surface command between the construction lines.

It seems that you want to unwrap the surface flat in the xy. I don't think it can be done or at least that's what I think.

I do have other software that does unwrap on xy which I would use. I'll be glad to unwrap for a small fee.

A compound curvature surface can't be flattened, so the surface between the two parts has to be a ruled surface. None of the PunchCAD products have the capacity to develop a surface to flat pattern automatically, and doing it manually is a bituva grind, involving progressive alignment of the facets onto one workplane. It can be done in VC by converting the ruled surface to faces, then thickening the faces consecutively and aligning them edge to edge. After aligning the first three faces, which share an edge that they can rotate about, the alignment takes one move and two three-point rotations per thickened face. Increasing the accuracy means increasing the mesh resolution, which means more thickened faces, meaning more work....

Thanks for your demo. It realy looks like a lot of work. I thought it could be done with project Curve to plane. but any how thanks allot

this is a long requested feature, rhino have two tools that might help you:

1.- unfold developable surfaces
2.- Smash Surface, this one for non planar surfaces

the surface you re asking for is developable to a flat pattern
Here is your file with the the surface flatten in rhino
