What Mac do you use with CU and or ViaCad? (#509)

Tim, I am using a Mac Mini (1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with 1 G ram) and am using ViaCad to do a lot of product development at our company. Lately, as I have gotten more proficient with the software, I have been adding more and more parts into my drawings. I have been creating assemblies with a dozen or more turned parts. Now, I am running into the limits of this little Mac Mini's power. Panning and rotating is taking a lot more time than I would like. So, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good Mac setup that would really do well for assemblies with ViaCad and Concepts Unlimited? Thanks, Dan

A new iMac with lots of RAM would be my recommendation

The new Imacs seem very nice and should have plenty of power.

I'm using a MacPro 3.0 and a MacBook Pro 2.33, but I'd agree: a new iMac seems to be the best choice in your case. Give it as much RAM as possible, and you'll have a fine 3D workstation :-) Bernd

Also note that as far as i know ACIS unfortunately only makes use of one processor (or one core on a duocore) so you would be looking for as quick a one as possible. On the other hand lightworks (Cu render) does use multiple cores so you should note a difference there.

You need a computer with 2 cores / processors ! Even tho ACIS only utilises 1 processor .. your computer will run Concepts far faster with 2 The second processor takes care of all the other jiggerypokery going on and leaves Concepts a whole processor to chew with And whilst Concepts is chewing, all your other stuRf - mail, browser photoshop will all still run great !

I'm also looking forward trying it.
Beware : the 20" display is of much poorer quality on the new iMac.
It was shown on Macbidouille.
Choose the 24" !
Of course, you're all Macbidouille readers...
