To use my designs on Apple's iBooks Author, they need to be in .dae format. This format is supported by Sketchup, but as Sketchup support is removed from the latest versions of ViaCad, I can't export to Sketchup and then save it from Sketchup to .dae.

What to do to get my file from ViaCad to .dae format?

Export to .obj then use Meshlab to convert to .dae. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/

Thanks for the tip! I went to try it of course, but it's even crashing on a simple cube. When it's not crashing, it displays really a mess. That probably needs further investigation, but it's not just "drag and convert"... Or is that just me?

Hello macnavi.

Have you looked at this youtube-video ?

Next suggestion:
You could try a two step conversion.
First OBJ > FBX
and then FBX > DAE
with the Autodesk free FBX Converter (scroll down a liitle bit).

Haven't tried it myself.
Just found the tip googling ...

Please report back if it did work.

Roland
