The purple bar has to be draped over the two circle solids, but I can't figure out how I can make it to follow its curve. I know you can use the bend tool, to shape the purple block, but I assume there is a functionality that you can align the face, where the purple block adjusts its shape to the curved items.
i.e., can one solid to be told to follow the curves of another solid(s)?

Why don't you make the bar wider or thicker and then subtract it from the plate?

Thanks, I thought about that just after that as well and that worked indeed. But I also have to fit a roof that is overlapping (it's wider) a curved container, so in order to make it an exact fit I need to figure out how you can change the curve of a solid to match another curved solid (or curve). If that is possible at all.

Have you tried the match face in 3d tools? There's also an offset face for solids.

Match Face will not bend the form, unfortunately, but extend to the solid. It will match the shape though, where it touches the solid. The offset Face only extends the block, right through the curved solid. I think the split solid is after all the best one to use. I'll will do this with the roof as well, by first curving the roof, extend the container and trim the part of the container that sticks out. Thanks for your help, really appreciated!

I extruded the face of the block, duplicated the bowl thingy, converted to surface and thickened it, then intersected it with the extrusion.

I see. I would have done it different and quicker with the trim solid. Not sure if you have that one. Just draw the profile. In this case a u shape and cut away the rest. Of course you would have to duplicate the saucer. Either way is good.

Tim did some work on a drape tool - I'm not sure what happened to it I thought it was quite exciting - but on reflection I'm not sure it would handle this instance

A Drape tool is close from what the Match Face does. I guess it should be possible. It would be interesting to see if that ever will be a feature. At least now I have the confirmation now that I'm not overlooking a drape tool, it just isn't there.

I'm not sure - but I think a drape tool may be useful to provide a surface through bunch of cloud points - something that I'd find useful !

I think that you are talking about something like flow command on Moi3D,
