I hope this is not too dumb a question, but is it really necessary to have both the UIs?
Can not everything be done by staying continuously in the 3D UI?

(I don't know what is involved, but I start off say with the 3D UI and then, after doing something, the heading --only the heading--chages from Go to 2D to Go to 3D?)

I have accidently clicked on the 2D when in 3D.
For me it is a real workflow twister.
I would prefer a coo coo clock icon pop up and then go away.
What was the reasoning for 3D to 2D mode? It is lost on me at the moment.
Maybe, make it harder to hit, put a thicker border between the top of the tools and the 2D to 3D mode changer, so that the action is more deliberate than accidental?

Sorry, but this forum is about the oddest yet.

Appreciate a "this world" reply if possible.

In a house full of computer boffins, with doctorates, who lecture in 3D stuff and are computer programmers.

Three of them all around the 50 mark--all whom find the various answers --"unusual"!

I believe the intent was to get beginning users used to working in the UI, in a 2D environment before having the confidence to move into 3D.

Also, before ViaCAD the former CSI-Concepts had a package that was only 2D, so this may allude to that limited functionality.

I further believe that it could be something relegated to the "View" menu, as in: lock 2D view (check or uncheck).

Summary?

"The 2D UI is not a necessity for working.
It would be helpfull if it could be locked out--say in Preferences."

Please correct me if I have made an incorrect assumption.
