Can anyone recommend an affordable software that I could use to animate joints and assemblies I create in viacad. Thanks

Animations /^ are available from the 'Pro' version, for
simulations /^ based on physics you need the 'Mechanical' version:

Thanks I'll check it out. I'm just looking for something basic where I can design some parts and assemble some linkages together and move them around on screen to see how they interact with each other.

Check out the trial of ViaCAD Pro 11, its implementation of D-Cubed constraints includes animation.
