These Nike, adidas and Disney posts are polluting the forum.
Who want "disney pixar cars diecast characters" here ?

I agree jlm, posh.de and others, it's time to send our host to the Recycle Bin:

Powered by YAF.NET 2.1.2 | YAF.NET © 2003-2017, Yet Another Forum.NET

and switch to something that works, this has been going on for way
too long.

These are posted mostly by the "guest", if guest posting was disabled it would stop 90% of the spam. This forum always requires me to re login every time vs the old forum. I don't know if this is a setting that can be changed, or its how the Yet Another Forum.NET operates by default.

This new forum works ok, but for me it

1. Takes a long time to post after I click the post button, regardless if a file is uploaded or not.
2. The posting of files in not real intuitive.

I'm asked for login to visit the forum again. It makes the forum a dubious benefit if people can't even browse unless they're members. The spam is annoying, but the cure's arguably worse than the disease.

For a forum as a registered user I would like to log in and then it remember the login for a set period of time or until I click log out.

Anyone should be able to browse as a guest but guests should not be allowed to post imho

Probably the absence of a moderator does not allow to configure the forum for normal work.

I very rarely saw forums that are available only for registered users. Usually these are forums for collectors, fans of porn/drugs etc...

Sure that guests can not write posts. But they can read?

Closed(private) forums scare away potential users. Forum is a powerful marketing tool.

Login duty is very inconvenient.

I guess this have all a reason, because the forum software have not a working spam protection. But since it closed for registered users i have never seen Spam. It works. Better a little bit silence than alot of Spam. And i have no problems with login every day because i use a password manager. For not so important passwords like this is the firefox password manager enough.

I have no problem reading forums where I am not registered. Why does PunchCAD behave like a closed community? Developers are happy with the sales?

I saw yesterday the list of the best software for 3D print. Between the forty software names I did not find either viaCAD or Shark.
Is FreeCAD better than Punch products? I doubt.

The 3d software is quite difficult to learn. I personally do not have time for experiments. So I choose software with powerful support. Video tutorials, books, well visited forums etc.

(viaCad is in my case an exception. :) I just bought it in the store 10 years ago.)

I am sure that none of the beginners do not buy viaCAD(especially overly expensive Shark). All run to Fusion. It is free and there are hundreds of video lessons, forums etc......

It is bad for all of us. I mean PunchCad users.

Hello

The forum is not a closed forum it must have happened with some recent setting changes, You could always browse the PunchCAD forum as a guest. It is that a lot of spam got started through the guest account since it was allowed to post.

I have seen in many many years on this forum that almost all requests for help have been answered by all the great members of this forum or by the developers themselves.
Its hard to understand the learning curve for someone starting a new software esp if you have used it or similar types of products for years. That said these products have available a good manual/online help files , lots of videos, a tips and trick book(purchase req.), and the lots of forum members willing to help.

I have used lots of software over the years 3D - CADDS ComputerVision, Pro Engineer, Solidworks / 2d- Generic CADD, thru Autocad + many more clones and knockoffs, all which had learning curves.
I think that there are 2 things to differentiate, learning a software's tool set, and learning how to model/create a 3d object/part/assembly.

In my opinion the best support is being able to have a forum (members+developers) willing to help each other with specific files, suggestions, or examples which you cannot always get a video or tutorial close enough in context to what you are working on to be helpful. With all software today, there is a learning curve, and some have better support than others, but unfortunately, training/support budgets are not huge for a lot of companies, so a good forum community is a great resource today.

If it were so, then I would not write this post. I can not browse this forum as guest. If I open this forum I see only login form(screenshot is attached).

I agree and I say the same thing. I registered on this forum only because it was always closed to guests. Only a short time it was free available. I use a lot of software too, but I do not have problems reading other software forums without registration.
This forum looks like seldom visited. Maybe this is the reason?

Hi digitalphaser, I don't mean to be rude, but that is not the login form (to use the site), it is the lost password form. I have to login each session, and the form is similar, but different, to the one in your pic.

Hi ianjkirby, many thanks that you were not rude to me.
I do not want to upset you too. If you take a close look, the name of the form is Login. In addition, pay attention to the breadcrumbs: Punch! CAD >> Login.

If I could not convince you, then the Lost Password form looks like this:

Hi all

We understand the frustration with the spam and while the forum administration is taking steps to eliminate it all together, some still seems to be slipping through. I will be visiting, on a regular basis, to check to see if any new spam shows up and if so immediately killing and banning the account that posts it as well as deleting the posts.
