I have some older files that are saved as .CAD and I cannot open them in ViaCad on any of my computers running on Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 10.

I always get the message "You do not have permission to access this file".

Any suggestions on what I can do?

You can try this website.
http://www.solvusoft.com...ions/file-extension-cad/
I also think older versions of Bob-Cad will open them.
Or upload a file or two so we can try.

the .CAD format was used by QuickCAD bought by Autodesk in those days (formerly Drafix) and cannot be opened or imported neither by AutoCAD nor punch!CAD products, AutoSketch (version?) seems to be able to open the .CAD format which would enable to save to the .DWG format.
