Why can't I move certain objects. (#3673)

I am working on a drawing imported from AutoCAD. The objects that I create, I have no trouble manipulating. But there are some objects in the original AutoCAD drawing that I simply want to move. I find that when I drag across the area of the object, the object will turn red, indicating that I have successfully selected it. I can take that selected object and Copy it, or Delete it. I simply want to MOVE it using the mouse. But the darn thing won't budge! The object in question is a simple group, consisting of just two lines in a circle. I don't want to un-group this object, because I will have to put it back together again. I want to move the entire group with the mouse. I suspect that somehow this object has dependencies (whatever that is). How can I move this object with the mouse?

try edit>remove links first alternatively edit>change object type to lines might help as for the full explanation of why - 'fraid I can't remember !

Greetings from the Colonies. I tried both: edit>remove links edit>change object type to lines (it already was 'lines'). Neither worked. On the objects that I have created, once I select that object I then hover the mouse over that object. The mouse pointer turns into a 4-arrowed pointer. Once I have the 4-arrowed pointer I can easily drag that object precisely where I want it. I never get the 4-arrowed pointer with the object you are helping me with. Something else happens that may give us a clue. I can very easily select objects that I have created by simply clicking anywhere on that object (precise pointing is not necessary). With the objects I'm having difficulty with I cannot simply click on that object, I MUST drag over it with the mouse pointer in order to select it. Other suggestions are welcome, there's got to be a way to do this.

Hi - can you post it please ? I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it (I do remember such a problem with lines that made up polygons - but I don't think that's the case here)

Todd, at Punch Software support found the problem. To make all these problems go away, all I had to do was: Go to the ViaCAD pull down menu and select "Preferences". Once in the dialog box, click "Factory All". This resets the preferences back to install defaults. I have only done a quick check, but this appears to have solved the problem. Is there any particular setting in the preferences that may have caused this? In other words, what should I NEVER do again?Todd was terrific , he stayed with my problem for several days, e-mailing various suggestions. Through this process I never got discouraged because Todd at Punch Software continued to work the problem. Bear in mind, I purchased the lowest cost ViaCAD software available, but I was treated like I spent $5000. In the future, I now plan to upgrade to more powerful versions of ViaCAD.
