I was testing how to make ViaCAD produce grouped objects that, once exported as FACT, Electricimage would understand as single entities (say, lots of separate pieces of a wall that I want to manipulate as a single object for texturing in one go instead of going piece by piece).

So I create a few spheres: some single ones, some grouped ones, and some booleaned ones (even if they don't intersect, ViaCAD lets me do it).

Now comes the strange thing: as I am going through the steps of exporting to FACT, I notice that, while adjusting tesselation parameters and ViaCAD showing me the final polys, the grouped spheres just dissapear from view. If I complete the process and import the resulting FACT in EIAS, certainly the Grouped spheres are neither visually present nor listed in the Project Window.

That wouldn't happen if I export as, say, DXF.

Is this a bug or a "feature" :)? (just joking, just joking :D)


By the way, I don't know if the FACT format would allow this, but it would be great if sets of Grouped entities would export to EIAS as sets of objects parented to corresponding encasing Null objects, as an option.

Regarding the problem I posted here... What would be the ETA of any patch that addresses it? I don't know what update policy Punch does follow. Minor ones from time to time, or widely spaced major ones?

This FACT export issue is being quite vexing in a project I am doing know, as I am having to "group" by boolean-adding about one hundred objects by twos (select object, boolean-add another, reselect, boolean-add another, etc.) for exporting. I'd go via another file format if not for EIAS being a clutz import-wise.
