Awesome- I don't know why I didn't notice this before. Architosh have released a press release on Bonzai too;

I can't work out though how much Bonzai costs. Any ideas?

I beta tested the program for quite a while. It is quite good, but not something I would use for my own modeling.

I found beta not so good, a lot of crash's, now is ok.
*particularly good "livetime" bend, twist, bulge
*particularly bad blend and edgetools
but a good beginning, reight time for Tim, that start's battle against bugs
VC shark is still better and faster. But the bugs !!!

I did not crash with the program (started testing with first beta). Only problems in that area where due to my not allowing it internet access which caused close down.

More better in areas not covered in BZ, but what is covered is better/ less probmatic. There is just a lack of good tools (a need for formZ). It is intended for architecture, and aimed against such as sketchup Pro.

The bugs in VC shark will eventually kill it if not addressed.

Interesting topic but not even close to being in the same league as SC or VC/Shark...

I am surprised you place SC VC and shark in the same sentence

I tried to use FormZ many times - as it was about the only thing on the market for the Mac in 2000

I'd come from CDRS & Alias StudioTools in the car industry and I didn't like FormZ one bit - I tried to teach it and gave up on it .. now even the colour of it turns me off

Then Tim arrived with Solids2000, the precursor of Shark. It was awful - but so, so promising !

By the way .. I have a way to cheer you up with your (very valid) grumblings about Shark & VC .. just be thankful you weren't using these tools in 2000 .. they were .. how can I say this nicely .. unfinished

Shark / VC has come an awful long way since then and is still threatening to live up to it's promises to be a truly awesome system .. but you're right .. amidst the brilliance, it's peppered with issues and desperately needs a thorough tool audit. Only then can we hope to have a really coherent set of tools, free of pot-holes

Still, we keep pushing ! Well done to everyone for all the effort they've put in !

I agree entirely (or should that be "I entirely agree"? )

I have and can use FormZ, but it is a program I have never felt comfortable with.
Since the early betas of version 1, I have used Rhino as my main app for work projects.

Then nothing really as changed much.

Unfortunately, the pushing appears to be avoided most of the time.

Why not? Have you tried it? SC was designed in the shadow of Sketchup. Even Autodesk Inventor has push/pull tools just like Sketchup. Why should Bonzai3D be any different? This software has just been released. It's dual platform, and that's great news too. Lets see how it matures.

:D

BZ is specific, it is intended for certain function and will not surpass that with added functions/tools.
I/ others attempted to have other tools added, but it was obvious of its direction. For them to add more tools/functions is not an incentive to upgrade to FormZ. (maybe version 2 will advance, but only in certain direction)

Form Z was the first modelling package I tried- it confused me totally, but then I was completely new to CAD. Out of every package I have played with, Shark, in theory, is easily the quickest. The problem though is if you don't get things in exactly the right order, your screwed (or so it seems). Could it just be that Shark is over complicated (as well as having those bugs?)?

Jol, you do know that Alias Design Studio, now runs on Mac OS?

Tom,

I have no problem if specific ordering is needed for a function/tool to work, however, such needs full/correct documentation, it also need to be consistent, which VC shark is not (currently).

I can normally pick up a cad and very easily adjust to the needs of the package, but VC is like a spoilt child at times and very unpredictable.
Dont get me wrong. I like VC and will be using it for a long time, but that does not mean I like its unpredictability or the many crashes I have, I just like the package for home use. Anyway, I have a tank to build :)
