Hallo,

i try to draw a spline around a jepg. Viacag 7 pro needs a lot of time, about a minute, just to move a point to an other place. Is there any hint ( jepg size, ...? )
please see the file

If it's taking you a minute to move a point, you're doing it wrong! When an individual point's selected, you can pick it up and move it coarsely with the mouse cursor, precisely if there are snap features. Without snap features, you can nudge points with the direction arrow keys, or use the data boxes to reference the current workplane and its absolute coordinate system. Using precision point, you can declare the coordinate system and define absolute position or relative delta vectors. If you haven't been using various methods to find what works best in various contexts, I recommend practice and experimentation. A minute per move would have me looking for my old drafting kit so I could jab myself in the eyeballs with a compass point.....aargh!
I find it easier to use shorter splines and use compound profiles. I don't think there's any significant advantage to using a single curve, and I think trying to achieve it introduces complication that consumes time.

that bezier curve is acting weird, I recommend you to use interpolate spline tool instead, give you a better control over the curve, here your image with interpolate spline trace:

Hi Andreas

I tend to get spline shapes right in Illustrator - to me it just seems easier to get complex splines to behave as I want them in AI.

But - you need to be careful when you import splines from Illustrator. Tangency between spline segments may be lost (not visibly - but actually). This won't appear to be an issue until you get further along when ACIS operations may start to fail you - for example, when adding edge rads to a complex profile.

So when you import - I'd recommend checking for good spline end tangencies with the Modify slope / reference or the Join curve tool (and watch that shape definition isn't lost with the join curve tool)

thank you to all of you,

so i was able to go a little bit faster with my christmas presents.
especially with your perfect drawing: lgrijalva
i will try it with Illustrater and the interpolate splinetool next time. Normally i want to use as less different programs as possible , alway import-export, puuh.

Have nice holidays.
