Below is a link to a video that shows how to generate evenly spaced sections through a surface and assigning a short cut key to visualize each section.

A great tip, because I've been doing some poor bloke's rapid prototyping, with layers cut from paper, and you've streamlined the workflow I've been clunking along as a series of one-shots. The capacity to nominate the multiple planes along a path, and then multiple sections, AND then to cycle through the sections with the layer views is spot on. Didja know that 3DSystems described a slice format called .slc that this procedure pretty much generates? It doesn't seem to be used very widely, but it makes great sense for visualisation and the polyline description of each layer is good for printing or CNC. There's a rapid prototyping suite called Netfabb that has a slicing routine for .stls to create .slc files, and it has an automatic animated cycle-through routine for the slices. It's like looking at those slice images of human organs that they made from that unfortunate who donated his body after being executed, but not as macabre...
