I suggest that we unify the select-ability. In many cases operations accept only lines or splines. But why cant I select edges with it? I first have to explode them. But hey its 2013 and such automatisms should be made by computers, right?
When selecting lines and points we can use the lasso tool. But why isnt that possible with edges and faces?

Yes I admit this should be made automaticly by software.
It is strange that sometimes I have to change arc to spline or all splines to arc, line to create extrude or One Rail Sweep Solid.
