Is there any logic in the program to generate different options from the cutout tool? Vector option.

In the file I attached the cutout on the left actual cut the profile but retained both pieces. I was using ctrl-shift to zoom in/out but not sure what else I pressed to generate this???

The cutout on the right is holding control down and executing the vector cutout, it copies the profile instead of cutting away?
