I found the new ViaCAD at Comp USA in San Antonio, Texas, last night, so I bought it and loaded it on my old G4 iMac [running latest version of OSX]. For what it is worth, it took a looooong time for the files to unpack from the CD, but everything seems to work just fine. So far I have only played around with the basics in 2D and 3D, so it is too soon to comment on usability, etc. The CD also includes quite a few demo/training files [movies and text] which should be very usefule to shorten the learing curve. My intent is to use ViaCAD for my hobby - live steam project design. I am a long time user of Cadmax, so this will be quite an adjustment when designing complex models with multiple parts. Cadmax has an elegant method of handling assemblies and keeping the file size manageable, but that product is unfortuantely limited to the Wintel world. When Apple release Leopard I plan to get the latest Mac [no decision yet on which model] with the new OS. By that time I expect to be up to speed on ViaCAD and able to post my findings on performance, etc., on the new OS and hardware.

Hi Brian, Welcome to the forum and thanks for the update on ViaCAD. FYI, you may want to update the box copy with the latest version from web site. You can download it directly from the menubar Help:Current Version option. It will check your version relative to the latest version available. The updated build supports the SketchUp v6 translator.

Jol, Clicking on Help:Current Version in ViaCAD brings you to an updater page at the punchcad.com site which is a different URL than Concepts.

How about integrating some sort of auto update feature into CU so that we can all avoid all the "what is the latest build" discussions.
The free OS X framework Sparkle does a tremendous job and has quickly become the Mac standard for auto updates.
http://sparkle.andymatuschak.org/ There must be something similar for the windows side, but if there isn't is that a god enough reason for hobbling the Mac version of CU ?
