Construction lines on workplanes

In the following model, the side pieces have holes in the end faces. I need to add mating holes in the front piece along its face. I've set the work plane to the face of the front piece, but when I place construction lines on it, snapping to the center of the hole, they snap to the plane the holes on the edges of the side piece are on.
Is there a way to use the centerpoint of an object that's not on the workplane to place construction lines at the same positions on the workplane?

Select "Work Plane" in the snap-window. That should do the trick.

Another way if you want to avoid construction lines.
