Dimensions and text vertical

Hi forum,
I'm having a very odd time tweaking my defined styles and, layers and views. Once I think I've solved one issue, another one pops up! So confusing!
Now, for some reason - all text and dimensions appear vertical - despite being designated at horizontal?
Any thoughts why this is happening?
Miles

Hello Polymer, Many forum members are complaining about the dimensions setting and interface. There are so many points to solve, or improve in the palette... In your case, the dimensions seem to follow a specific workplane you have set. Go to the workplane menu and put it back to global... JL

Thanks Jim, I'm also playing around with the startup.dat file to set up pen properties for each layer. Can't make much sense of it as not much sticks when I reopen a new file. My newly created pen styles remain (as I can't edit the existing ones), but they are non-associated with each layer! I've tried using the 'override pen styles' in the layers palate, but the startup.dat doesn't keep these settings either. So a basic, basic question. How can I create a default file with pen styles associated with layers? Miles

Tim
Here is Startup.dat, all the custom pen types and layers are saved but not the pen style applied to the layers
Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason, tim
I loaded Jason's startup.dat file into my Shark LT 9 resources folder and did a relaunch.
This is a screen shot of what I've got. Again. pen styles are not associated with layers.

Hi Tim,
Jim, responded to this matter and offered a remedy.
But I'm still not sure why the workplane needs to be reset to global solves the problem?

>>But I'm still not sure why the workplane needs to be reset to global solves the problem? Dimensions are defined in a 2D coordinate system where x defines the horizontal direction. When creating dimensions, this 2D coordinate system is the WorkPlane. Resetting the workplane put it back aligned with the global coordinate system. Tim
