Does Shark FX9 have a tool(s) that will recover the planar information from an imported non-Shark FX9 series of equally spaced outlines (ie: planes) made up of spline segments?? each of the outlines consists of three to ten spline segments. my objective is to replace all of the non-circular outlines with a "circle" AND to impose a continuous rate of change in the diameter of the "circles". with those improvements incorporated, the "circles" will be transformed back to the solid model domain and returned for further CFD and/or flow bench evaluation.

If they're 2d splines on arbitrary planes, workplane by 3 points on each will give you the plane, not their Cartesian axes or origins. If you're going to replace them with circles, I assume by three points, you could assign the circles' centres as origins, for what that's worth.

Hi Art

PowerPack has a tool that simplifies line segments into circles. There is also a tool that does a circle best fit to a collection of data.

If you post just the outlines, I'll try it out on your file.

Tim-

here's the file with the port section outlines. as shown, the file includes a port center line that needs at least as much help as the section profiles. it currently meanders in a haphazard manner between point A and Pont B; an artifact of hand porting I hope to eliminate going to a 5-axis mill.

the plan in the morning is to try Murray's suggestion to see if I can establish each of the planes in a manner accessible in Shark. planes are needed before I can tackle improvement of the port center line and the size of the circle on each plane...................

would joining all of the spline segments on each of the individual planes get me enough to snap a local coordinate system to??

thanks!!

file won't load.... is it because I don't have Power Pack; circles in 3D space surely doesn't require an update ??

MUCH better, thanks! things look worse with "circles" than I imagined............. the circles at least have more information available to Shark; Gripper, quadrants, center,.... still would be really handy if the "WorkPlane" tool had an assume object plane option. at least with "circles" I can get there eventually.

what's the current list of tools and other functionality included with the PowerPack? current pricing for PowerPack including a CD/DVD backup copy with shipping to 93555?

>>still would be really handy if the "WorkPlane" tool had an assume object plane option.

The WorkPlane : Select Object command will set the workplane to the selected spline.

Note with the 3 Point circle command you don't need to specify the workplane. The plane of the circle is defined by the three points.

Tool set for PowerPack is here:

PowerPack is a small download. It's a license file that activates additional features within your current version of ViaCAD/Shark v9 for $125 at our online store.

thanks! clearly didn't do something correctly when I tried the "Select Object" tool before posting.

I'll call the store tomorrow to get a PowerPack license sent.
