Hi

I am working on a revised shop layout and in doing so I am putting in dimensions to make sure enough space is left for customers, trollies etc.

When I use the dimension tools they give me the accurate distance between two objects, but if I then move an object the dimension stays where it is.

Is there a way of having a 'smart dimension' so that it attaches to both objects and adjusts if one of them is moved, giving the new measurement?

Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian

Check out this video around the 4:30 mark which demonstrates the Smart Dimension tool.

Thanks Tim

I have followed your examples and they worked.

However, when I try to do this with 2 smart polygons I cannot get it to work.

The closest I have got ends up with the measurement from the top polygon as you can see in the picture.

What am I doing wrong as it works in your examples and when I do the same with the smart polygons and it does not work?

Regards

Brian

Hi Brian

I will need to re-examine the smart attachment points for a polygon. Looks like the polygon entity is not as smart as it should be.

Greetings.

I am very new to Punchcad and I am a little stumped on this same issue.

I have two objects in 2d drafting with a dimension in between them and would like to reposition the objects while watching the dimension change.

I can sort of do it sometimes when I select both one point of the dimension and the object but that does not always work or it's somehow very awkward getting a hold of both.
I hoped to somehow have that dimension attach itself to the endpoints of the objects and move with them.

Can you help me?

I did watch the tutorial but the example is with circles and I am using polygons. Is that a factor?

Thanks for your help.

Hi aac

Yes Currently the smart dimension is not working with the polygon as mentioned in the previous post. You can use the show points for the dimensions. Then you can move the dimensions individual point to snap to the geometry you updated.

Thanks Jason,

Is there a way to see the dimension or distance of where I want to place an object relative to another object? Since the dimensions don't update automatically with the movement of an object, I find I am guessing repeatedly to find the distance I want between two points. I am guessing I need to place guidlines or follow a grid? Is that the only work around for this? Can guidlines be specifically placed relative to a point or a line?

Hi All
I spent some time today updating the dimension tool and polygons. This update will be in the 1167 builds.
