the brick fill pattern is too small for my work. can I modify the fill pattern or add a new fill pattern and how do I do that.

Better off doing a hatch with the ISO standards for brick that way you can scale it to your desire.

As rockyroad mentioned, the fill patterns are small bitmaps repeated throughout the closed shape. If I were to add a scale, it would be pixelated. To control the size or orientation you may need to look at the hatch shapes. The specific cross hatch pattern is called IsoBrick.
