I come from 2D background so apologies if this is an obvious question. As an example create a 4" x 4" x 1/4" wall steel tube 115" long. Creating it by constructing rectangle within rectangle and extruding to 115" length. After doing so windowing all and grouping all together, or so I thought. Issue is that if I select object and move it moves the extrusion only and not the underlying rectangles. If I window all it will include them and move but this is not always convenient with several parts in close proximity. Am I understanding this properly? Thank you in advance.

also very helpful for selections is "menu -> window -> select mask" to select special object types

After Rockyroad's clarification and Guest suggestion have come up with this resolution.
#1 Create two smart polygons for the tubing profile.
#2 Extrude the shape.
#3 Select both polygons and group. NOTE: Group after the fact as you can not extrude a group.
#4 Rename group the the part spec., like 115x4x4x.25, or 115" long, 4 x 4 tube and 1/4" thick wall.
#5 To select and move that component, as solid will follow base lines, activate mask to groups only.
#6 Select appropriate group and move assembly.
