If you're drawing a line or a curve from one side of an object to the other, how do you change the view without interrupting your operation? It seems like using the dynamic view or other view tool turns off whatever tool you were previously working with. So how do you work around an object where you can't see both sides at once?

There are default hot key combos (I'm on Win, so I'm making the assumption that Mac shares them), Alt + 1, Alt + 2 and Alt + 3, that switch to front, RH side and plan view respectively without interrupting the current tool, and ctrl + F to zoom extents. Right-click in the drawing window to bring up view menu or using the menu header gives the other formal view options. Scroll-wheel and its mouse button gives freestyle view manipulation and zoom, cursor position drives the centre of view.

In the example you're giving, I just make the model transparent, so I only see a wireframe. This way you CAN see the other side. You can prepare the other side by placing a point to connect to.

Other short cut to move during drawing is the space bar, of course. Just in case you didn't know...
