Model to sheet parts on odd angles ? (#4620)

Is there an easy way to re-orient draw views in order to 'straighten out' the parts in model to sheet ? For example if you model a rectangular block that is not parallel to x or y, then model to sheet, you get the skewed version in your draw views. The only way I have found to correct this is to rotate the lines within the draw view around the appropriate axis, the problem with this is that the view will revert back to the actual position of the solid if you update draw views. Thanks Ryan

I get the same problem in ViaCAD Pro 8. It is happening every time, without exception even with different parts. It is so bad that I don't use model to sheet. I copy the image now to Word template. What else can I do if the program is not working as it should?

Ryan, I have figured it out. You display your single block (your example) in any view and press the model to sheet button and then on the block. Currently your model is bigger than the space required on the sheet. You have to scale the model down in the next pop-up screen or you have to increase the paper size. When there are enough or more space available on the paper to display the four views, everything will display correctly. The easiest is to scale to 0.5 or increase the paper. You will notice that the four views are placed more to the left. You can move them as you wish, especially when you put a lot of dimensions to one of the views or want to add comments. Ypou have to click on a view to get the red frame around it , select with the arrow by dragging a block around it, flatten the image and deselct. Now you can move with the gripper, but the image is now loose lines and not a whole unit any more. In some of the views, some holes are not showing so you may wish to indicate it with dotted lines. The options are limitless. Just experiment. What I like about ViaCAD is that you can figure something out, with other CAD programs it is much more difficult.

I understand what you are saying, and it will work. I do not want to flatten the draw view, as you lose associativity with the original model, i.e. after you flatten the view, and go back in the model to change something, the flattened view will not update anymore. The way I have been doing it, I take the part out of the complete model, put it into a new model with just that part, and orient the part parallel with whichever axis I choose, then model to sheet. This is not an ideal solution, as any changes to that part in the original model will not transfer over to the new model, and you have to do it all over again.
