How Can I Make Splines Behave Properly? (#3105)

I'm trying to create a model using some 2D blueprints that I have imported as jpegs. Using the spline tools, I have been trying to recreate some of the curves. However, I'm getting very frustrated as the splines seem to want to straighten themselves out in various places rather than follow the path in which I want them to go. Please help as I have now resorted to using TurboCAD to trace the curves I need. TurboCAD's splines follow along perfectly. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a setting I just don't know about?

Hi
What type of spline are you using? Try interpolate vs control point.

You might have more success with finer movement nudging nodes with the arrow keys. Nudge distance can be set in preferences|general. Holding the key makes the movement continuously incremental.

Thanks for the replies! However, I'm already using interpolate spines. For some reason, they just don't want to cooperate all the time. This is one of the very few areas where I've found TurboCAD Deluxe has the advantage. (Please, don't throw anything at me!)

Have you an example of what you are trying? Usually its just a case of drawing the curve, then show control points and adjust as needed.

you need to turn on nudge in the (general) prefs the gripper also makes a big difference here in Shark - I guess ViaCAD 7 will get it soon !

Hi. I am new to ViaCad and this forum, but I do have a fair amount of experience with Intergraph's Microstation. But the move to a Mac made me look for a new tool, and it was to be VC. At first, I too was rather disappointed with the unability to manipulate splines, which is what I used to do a lot in MS. But now Zumer and Jol pointed me in the right direction by mentioning the Nudge setting. I also found out that, when you switch off all snaps (mainly to get rid of the reference lines the logicursor was showing relating to earlier points in the spline), you can no longer use the select tool to move the control points. Select a point and nudging it still works OK.

HI Max
If you leave just the endpoint and midpoint snaps on and turn others off you can move points without all the logicursor lines with the select tool.

Made a blog post on modifying spline points.
