Without any obvious action from myself, all objects suddenly show up in a dimmed fashion. Only when I pan the view, they show up in the original brightness momentarily, and fade again when I stop panning.
Does anybody have an explanation for this? How do I reset it?

Max.

When I try to resolve the problem by clicking Workplane>Show dimming, the program crashes often.

Down at bottom and left of your screen is the different shade modes. Try a different shade mode. Line in one of the shade modes appears dull or dimmed as you describe.
