:)
It's almost finished.
Please have a look here to see the WIP:
http://web.mac.com/geotrupes/iWeb/Main%20site/Lampa.html I developed the initial model via Microstation and Rhino because I needed to unwrap the surface on a plane... and this is the only remark.
After I needed a solid (and sound) modeller so I switched to ViaCad, far superior and at a super price!
Solid model ViaCad
Renderings are done in Maxwell / Radiance.
FEA in Strauss
Prints with Dimension SST
Aluminium via sand casting at Hudecek's.
Next step is to fix it to the ceiling and put inside a lamp :-)
Hope you like it,
G.

FEA, Structure analysis. Since the shape is basically a spring it has been used to understand what was going to happen after the metal was poured... At that time the size of the model was bigger, which I had to reduce for weight constraints (the ceiling!!) and also for costs. The only thing is that the thickness of the shade had to be a little bigger than what I sketched... again to avoid a spring bouncing shade :-) G> PS and thank you all for the kind comments!

Hi G, yes I know what FEA is, I just haven't heard of Strauss. Where can I find this software, because I couldn't find it on the internet/ google

I knew this one, sounds good to me! Structural checks were made by a friend whose specialism is in fact structures :-) G.

Yes FEA is a tough nut to crack. I don't know one person who runs the opposite way when they hear those letters being read out! LOL!
BUT, FEA is extremely important especially in today's climate. (pun!)
This is a good link for finding stress concentration factors in objects using the ANSYS software (SCF's being prevalent in the design of chairs and stuff etc). You can set poisson's ratio and Young's modulus in ViaCAD, and export it in IGES files that software like GMSH can read.
