Hello,

Upgraded to FXv8 and it does not auto recognize my v7 shortcuts. Is there a file I can drag from v7 to v8 to automate this? Have searched around on forum and on my hard drive but no luck yet. I am on a mac.

Thanks,

Gary

Not sure about where the preferences file is on a pc but on a mac its User//Library/Preferences/Punch!/Shark FX/SFXPrefs.ini

When I upgraded from 5 to 7 all I did was replace the new preferences file with my customized file from v5. It would have been a real pain to re-enter all the shortcuts by hand if it weren't for this file.

I assume the same file structure exists with v8.

The problem I am having is I can find no folders that have names that designate v7 from v8. They are all just named Shark FX.

My next uneducated guess would be to figure out which folders are for what versions by saving your preferences in your old version of shark and seeing which one was updated. Does that even make sense what I just said?

That makes sense. Tried it. The only files I see changing are in the application folder. Moved file to v8 folder but did not solve problem.

Seems to me if you "overwrite" the new version-8 preferences file with your own previously-customized one it should be reading it fine. Then the only thing I can think of, is its either not in the correct folder, or the v8 is looking for a different named file.

Hello Tim,

Can you please identify the locations for the preferences and shortcut files for v7 and v8 of Shark fx?

Thanks,

Gary

It would be very helpful to have a table showing locations of Backup files, Preferences, Shortcuts, and Custom Tool Palettes vs ViaCad7 and 8, ViaCad Pro7 and 8, SharkLT7, SharkLT8, SharkFX7, and SharkFX8. Customers spend a lot of time puzzling over this.

Of course we're talking a 3D table when considering Mac and PC...

I think it would be a good idea for the SharkFX V8 installer to ask if the end user (us) wants the older preferences to be applied to SFX v8, or if the preferences from v7 should be archived in a folder where the new preferences will be referenced, or even ignored/erased. All software installers should be this considerate.

Hello all,

Personally, I create a blank file containing almost all my settings and I name:

Startup.dat

Then I put it in the root folder SharkFX.

When starting the software, this is the file that is launched Startup.dat priority.

OK, problem finally solved:

V7 preferences & shortcuts:

user/Library/Preferences/Punch/SharkFX

V8 preferences & shortcuts:

user/Library/Application Support/Punch/SharkFX

Hope this helps someone else...
