Im drawing some circles, lines, arcs, and control point splines.

Im having issues;

I get the error "Curves must be planar to use this tool", the Corner trim tool. Im in 2D mode...arent all curves planar in 2D?

Also I cannot get an intersection snap.

Basically i'm having a difficult time getting to a shape I can extrude, and it shouldnt be this difficult.

AND - I've been having import issues lately, and this drawing im working with involved an imported .vc3 file, a very basic one at that.

I attached a copy of the file.
Somebody please tell me what i'm doing wrong here...

I think I got it.

I started the drawing in 3D, then switched to 2D.
Rather than eliminate a curve, It apparently keeps it but doesn't allow much manipulation of it.

I looked at the collection of lines in 2D and saw what you saw. That is, curves that appear to be connected. I switched to 3D and selected the isometric view option and immediately saw that the curves were not connected. In version 8 of 2D/3D, the inspector shows that the coordinates of one pair of lines that appear to be connected in 2D are separated by over an inch at the end points. Switching to 2D does not change the spatial relationships created in 3D. It simply shows what the lines look like when the images are projected to a plane.

I thought there was an option in the program to flatten or project a 3D image to a 2D version, but I am unable to locate documentation of such. It would be nice wouldn't it?

By the way, ViaCad continues to be in error with respect to usage of the word "planar" in the referenced context. The actual word is "coplanar" as any good analytical geometry text will substantiate. "Planar" means having the characteristics of a plane, while "coplanar" refers to points lying in the same plane.

I think the tool you're looking for is "Project curve to plane".
Note; there exists five options in the option box above when this tool is selected, and yes you can window select multiple objects and project.
