Sweep curve along 2 guides - sweep fails to respect drive curve

This has been like this forever - in fact, perhaps there's logic to say it shouldn't work anyway

Be great if someone could look at it and say why the driven curve is not respected

... and can anything be done about it

Thank you !

Hi Jol,
Don't know if this is what you want, seems to work on the PC.

Many thanks Larry !

- Could somebody with a Mac have a look for me

... perhaps this is a Mac / PC thing !?

Or perhaps I'm doing some thing daft ?

Thanks again Larry !

Modify your end slope so it's not so sharp.

Hi MitchB

I've tried your suggestion - this just lessons the issue, but the issue remains

Perhaps you're on a PC - and this is a Mac issue ?

(I'm not really looking for a workaround. I'm looking to highlight longstanding issues so they can be rectified and not ignored)

I note that your solution looks wavy - I also had this issue in my experimentation

Perhaps if any of the devs go through these forum entries - they can look at that too

Thanks Mitch for your help

I'm on a mac. I can confirm the same result but only if I go from left to right when picking the curves to sweep. If you pick from right to left and maintain the height with the OPTION key held down, you get a better result with the 2 guide rail sweep. I know Larry attempted it with the guide sweep surface as a solution, which is not the same command and also gives sort of a kink in the surface when you zoom in.

In my CAD experience, it is better you go with four curves instead of three since you still need maintain tangency with whatever this is patching.

I've just tried it in shark on a PC, and if I go right to left on the two curves it's almost on the lower sweeping curve. If I go left to right it's way off like the original image.

Tried it in V11 pro and it had a fit, and eventually gave the same results as shark although moving the model around was very jittery after this.
Guided skin surface works ok, but there is a blip in the top of the longer edge for whatever reason...

Better to go with four curves and do a net surface. Who knows what the calculations might be doing. You suspect it will behave correctly intuitively but the math behind it might not allow it thus you get a space or way off.

Maybe if someone has another spatial engine in another CAD and try out the curves to confirm this.. My Rhino is too old to try.

I can stick them through Catia tomorrow but I've done something similar, and got different results. Visually I preferred the Shark result, only because I knew what the resulting surface should have looked like. Although the Catia surface appeared to go away from what I wanted.

Straight off the commands Catia can't figure it out. NX however produces a nice surface. It's almost the same as what Shark can do, only the one in NX grips the bottom edge better.

You would think that it will be identical assuming they both use the same engine. I don't know much about NX but it does sound like a higher end CAD software. I guess you get what you paid for.

Maybe it is time to start looking around since Punch is going in a different direction and our voices are not heard.
