Not sure the subject is descriptive, this is my problem. I have the head of a lamp with sockets and reflectors and screws. I neeed to place this whole assembly on the end of an angled arm. Ideally I would have used the magnet tool to make a reference between the end surface of the arm and the corresponding surface in the assembly. But the magnet tool will not translate a group. I also tried to boolean union all the parts, use the magnet tool as described and then remove the boolean operation in the entities list - but then all the parts jump back to their original position.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Claus

Thanks Rokoko. My mind was somewhere else, this is of course a way to do it with some extra clicks. For this kind of thing I usually use the magnet tool, hence my question.

Cheers

The jumping back I know from the working with copies of objects. I would imitate what you have descriped, but there was no jumping back. Therefore I was not able to delete the bollean union out of the entities. (Just every one has his own trouble!)

If it is helpfull for the concrete case, the Magnetic Tool is also working with a Covered Surface what is deletable without ramifications, also you can hide it or deposite it in a separate layer.
