This was current topic when I started with V 9 and I thought the issue is solved. Perhaps they had bring it back, when the Magnet-Function was implemented.
And this is also the makeshift in two steps to reach the same:
With the Magnet function you can bring down the head of a bolt to one level of the bloc where the hole is - but centered to the surface of the bloc;
2nd step, activate the gripper setting "User Positioned" and there check on the "Face Snapping"-option.
Positioning the bolt to the hole, it will be jumped to the center position of the hole.

(the 1st pic shows the bolt a little bit pulled up for better seeing)

The same effect as the Magnet is the Mate Face -tool, it holds the shank of the bolt on its position

I was doing just this earlier! The above is good, but I was trying to do it without using translate. I wanted to keep it "translate free". One of the mating types basically is weird and I couldn't get it to work right, it flipped the part the wrong way, moaned about things not being the same type of face, when they were, or at least I thought 2 flat faces were the same!

So I ended up using the method mentioned, works well!

Hi together,

at the moment I would use the Snap Function so I described before, but it doesn't works .... gggrrrrrr

The face snapping function is offert for the User-Positioned option and I'm likely sure that I used it before.

Ok, changed to Gripper Center Selected and check ON the option there - and it works.

I have no idea what is the difference to my tries before, it is definitifly the same: a bloc with a hole and a headed bolt.
The only thing I can imagine is that the gripper was haphazardly positioned like Center of the Selected.

I'm really sorry for any confusion I may have caused but I'm assume myself innocence.

Regards
Horst

I have tried out when the Snap is active.

Have a look to the pictures,
to activate the snap, the bolt must overlap more than a radius of the hole. Than the brink of the hole becomes red and when terminating the movement by a mouse click the bolt jumps centralised into the hole.

I hope, this is now the definitive solution ;-)
