I believe this to be not the intention (bug):

When you click and hold your mouse still on a folder or layer in the Concept explorer, the name can be changed (text is selected blue). But f you not type anything, but just press the Escape key, the window will close.

The expected behaviour is the blue selection to turn to a default, unselected state after pressing the Escape key.
