I am using ViaCAD 2D v9.

I have managed to draw various complex shapes, used successfully for laser cutting components for scale models. I am now trying to generate artwork for sending off to be etched. The output for this obviously differs from my first efforts - it requires shapes of colour for etching, rather than the outlines for laser cutting. But I am having trouble generating filled shapes in ViaCAD.

I am encountering problems in filling small areas. While the Fill tool works OK on (say) a large rectangle, I get the message "Valid hatch region not found" when I try to fill a small rectangle (for example, 0.5 x 0.5 mm). Is there some lower limit that ViaCAD will not handle? Is there some sensitivity setting that can be tweaked?

So I then looked to create the shapes at a larger size, fill them there, and then shrink them down to their correct size with the Scale tool. That also did not work down to small sizes, Again,is this a ViaCAD limitation?

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Rob

HI Rob

I did find some issues filling small regions. I've fixed the ones I came across (a 0.5x0.5mm rectangle). If you post your file, I can confirm it is now fixed in 1209+ builds.

Hi Tim

In the attached file, the Fill command works OK on the squares on the right, does not work at all on the two on the left, and works sometimes on thee ones in the middle.

I am using ViaCAD 2D v9 Build 1184 ("current version")

Any help gratefully received!!

Thanks

Rob

PS - how do I attach a file? Forum won't let me attache a .vc2 file !!??
PPS I am manually renaming it as a .vc3, just to get it uploaded...

Received, will look into.

Instead of clicking inside the rectangle, try holding down the Shift key and selecting the four curves you want to fill.

With the Fill tool selected, i Just tried shift-clicking each of the edges. That just selected the edges of the rectangle (i.e. as Red), but does not itself perform the fill. Then tried clicking inside the selected rectangle - same result as before.

Sorry...

Tim, that's great! Always happy to help improve the product.

Is there a timeline for 1209? :-)

Thanks

Rob
