From the how to videos I see, The woodworking options seem to only be in the 3d option of ViaCad. Am I wrong to assume this or can we still use those functions in the 2d only version? I know I can show with dashed lines, but won't that affect the BOM?

Correct, the woodworking features such as dado are 3d only features.
