Hi

I am wondering if there is a way of using the Project curved surface tool so it only projects onto one side of a solid

i have something different to project onto the opposing side when i use this tool it ends up on both sides.

i have watched the video on using this tool and it looks to be the best for what i want to do,

do i have to split the solid then project the line work onto the solid then join the two halve back together to achieve what i want to do.

i am creating a railway carriage where the windows doors etc differ on opposite sides and ends.

i have drawn the sides and ends and was going to then create the cutouts etc.

or would there be a better way of performing this

When the tool asks for 2 points to define the projection vector, pick the same point twice.

Hi jason

i tried that and the program fell over (quit unexpectedly) i have got the crash report. I am investigating this as it appeared to work using small amounts of objects so perhaps there is a problem object.

Another way to do this is use the wireframe mode to see what you are doing and move the curves into the solid and project from inside the solid out to the surface.

ACIS by default projects into all faces of the body along the projection direction.

i thought their may have been a projection distance control setting i was missing

thank you this worked for me but i only found it possible to do bits at a time and not the whole amount Would it be possible to add the shift to add or remove/selections to this tool maybe? at some time

Did you try grouping all the lines together before using the project tool?

I had grouped them together in smaller groups of individual windows. now I have grouped them together as a single group and projected onto the surface and all this worked ok

only thing i wish for is having Group and ungroups as options when selecting and right clicking this would save time like the colour and layer options

You could try to speed up by setting a shortcut key to group or ungroup commands. Rt click on the top of the main tool pallet and assign a shortcut key.
Once the group is created the rt click menu has the add or remove from group which saves alot of time.

think a useful thing in the future would be the ability to assign things like this to the right click menu perhaps in a future Version
