In the Mac build of ViaCAD Pro 9 w PowerPack I added a new option to Launch KeyShot. This will take the currently displayed data and convert into an OBJ file that launches KeyShot.

Tim, this could be very handy for me since I use Keyshot all the time. However it should import the file into the currently open Keyshot window, not create a new file. At least that is how I work...

HI Claus

Thanks for the feedback. I"m going to send an email off to keyshot and find out what additional options I have available.

Are you sending OBJ or using one of their other translators?

Tim,
if you could, could you also add STEP, as it is more reliable at transferring part names over to Keyshot. This makes it much easier when you start applying materials, than the numbers that OBJ transfers over.

Thanks Nick, I'll try STEP. I first tried SAT but found keyshot dropped many of the objects and did not always preserve color by face.

STEP does a nice job, it keeps the color attributes per face and seems to get all the parts.

ViaCAD render left/keyshot render right side in attached image.

STEP is the way to go. seems to have the better surface quality as well!

I'm using obj. I would prefer to have the choice between formats, sometimes one works better than the other. I'll try step next time to see how it works, but I remember that last time there was a problem and I reverted to obj.

Yes will look into making it an option. Mesh/subdivision data needs to use the OBJ format to keyShot.

Just had a quick test on a simple revolved object. It had errors when imported into Keyshot. In addition I believe Keyshot will take a very long time to convert complex geometry making STEP a real slowdown to an effective workflow. Maybe they improved something in V6 which is in beta right now.

thank you very much! Tim!

Good news!

it still lacks a true bridge between Shark and Keyshot.

For example: all changes of Shark file Keyshot are reflected in real time, like SolidWorks or Creo.

Tim, Great progress for going to Keyshot, at least for those of us using this workflow. As others have said, being able to get Updated geometry into to Keyshot would be great without the involvement of reimporting and reapplying materials, remapping graphics (if possible) etc. This would be a huge time saver.
